    Case study :: Fujitsu Australia

    Fujitsu "Forum" 2010, Hayman Island :: Errol Jones Productions, Sydney

    Fujistu "Forum" is a unique annual event which celebrates the achievements of Fujistu Australia's top sales performers. Andy has performed at this event on past occasions, and the Fujitsu Forum 2010 was certainly considered to be the most successful so far. Working alongside one of his favourite event managers, Errol Jones, Andy added his special touch and input to every facet of the event's entertainment.

    Day One - Welcome Dinner, La Fontaine

    The opening night of Forum 2010 included a Welcome Dinner at Hayman Island's premier restaurant, La Fontaine. The theme was "The Hamptons", and in keeping with the grand American tradition, La Fontaine was decked out in all white. The first sight that greeted delegates as they entered the room was Andy playing a full-sized white grand piano, dressed in a white tuxedo, creating the "wow" factor as people entered the room.

    Day Two - Beach Party, Hayman Island Beach

    Day Two culminated in a Beach Party theme on Hayman Island Beach. For this performance, Andy was joined by Rob Severini and Joe Delalande: The Gentlemen's Swing Club. From the very first note, the audience lit up with excitement and enthusiasm, applauding at every opportunity. Joey D was "feeling the love" and the band immediately developed a strong rapport with the crowd. There was a guest appearance from the famous "Singing Waiters", which took the energy in the room to another level. After the Singing Waiters' show, the GSC returned to the stage and delighted the delegates with their unique brand of swing and pop.

    Nights One and Two - "Club Fujitsu", Planters Room

    Each night of the "Forum", guests were invited to join Andy in The Planters Room at Hayman Island Resort for an informal piano bar style theme. The bar was open, and delegates certainly got into the "swing of things", requesting songs, singing along with Andy, and enjoying the fruits of their sales success. Delegates partied on into the wee small hours, and this informal atmosphere certainly encouraged team-building and camaraderie among the staff, all from various offices around Australia.

    Day Three - Team Building Exercise: Fujitsu Idol

    Day three was spent rehearsing four teams of twenty people for the Innaugural Fujitsu Idol competition, to be held at the Gala Dinner that night. A great idea for a team building exercise, teams were formed and captains chosen. One song selected for each team to perform, and a ninety minute rehearsal with Andy was allocated. With about 24 hours notice, Andy was able to generate song lyrics sheets for each member of each team, as well as a band arrangement for the performance at The Gala Dinner. Each rehearsal was fantastic fun, dotted with the hysterically funny ice-breaking moments you would expect when colleagues get together to sing for the first time. Although it was all in good humour, there was no mistaking the fiery competitive instincts that lurked just beneath the surface.

    Day Three - Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony

    The Gala Dinner was the climax of the week's celebrations. Hosted by Jules Lund from Channel 9's "Getaway", the awards ceremony had a jam-packed runsheet. Errol Jones' background in live television means these events always run like clockwork. With every key member of the production teams on headset comms, Andy was integral in bringing the different elements of the evening together.

    As Musical Director, Andy was responsible for arranging and performing play-ons and play-offs, directing and accompanying each team choir in their big debut performances, and providing all the background music and dance music for the entire evening. Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows were special guests that evening, giving Andy and his Swing Club a well-deserved break for one hour for a glass of wine and dinner in the green room.

    Summary

    Fujitsu "Forum" 2010 was a fantastic success, and the feedback from the clients, delegates and Andy's colleagues was overwhelmingly positive. Andy takes great pride in the work that he does, and in just those 72 hours on Hayman Island, Andy performed the tasks of Musical Director, arranger, soloist, piano-bar entertainer extraordinaire, and band leader. The partnership between Errol Jones Productions and Andy Pobjoy continues to prosper and flourish, and we continue to enjoy the great excitement of working on similar projects together.
